I Thessalonians 2:5 NKJV
For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness—God is witness.
I Thessalonians 2:5 NKJV
Paul brought many teachings that were contrary to the religious system in place at his time.
The liberty and freedom in Christ have led many religious leaders to fear for their own well-being, their values, and practices.
Paul testifies that all this is not for his own benefit, not to build his empire or a legacy for himself, but to lift every soul to freedom in Christ.
Flattering words are needed to manipulate people to believe.
There is no need to flatter to convince when it is the truth.
The cloak is a cover people put on to hide what is inside; covetousness is to use everything for personal benefit.
Therefore, Paul said we are not putting on the cloak of covetousness nor using flattering words to convince anybody for personal benefit.
In Paul's teachings, Paul has mentioned that Christ is his sufficiency, blessed with every spiritual blessing and an heir of God's kingdom.
This means Paul doesn't have to work to get God's blessing but works out of the blessings he had already received from Christ.
The preaching of God's word is accompanied by signs and wonders, which is proof that no man can deny.
One thing we all can learn is that we don't need to help God to convince someone; if we live by His word and display His power, there is no need to convince anyone with flattering words.
What we have inside is the power and glory of God. All God wants to do is to use every gift, every power, and the authority and dominion that He has given to live life.
Let us fully trust God's word, keep sowing His word into our lives, and keep demonstrating His love, grace, and power every day.
Live in the blessings,
Ps Ambrose
