Matthew 6:4 NKJV
that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
Matthew 6:4 NKJV
What Jesus tried to address here is not about people knowing what we have done, because the people we help is going to know, their family is going to know and it is a great opportunity to display the LOVE OF GOD.
What Jesus is trying to highlight here is the very thing the Scribes and the Pharisees were doing. Everything they do is to puff themselves up that they have done these amazing things.
Jesus is teaching us to be God-centred in everything we do. To ultimately give God all the glory because all things come from Him.
Today many organisations help to feed the hungry and clothe those who are in need. To let people know about the needs is not wrong but taking the credit for it is absolutely wrong.
When we share the needs and the work that God has shown us to be a part of, we can let others know so thay can have the opportunity to be an instrument of God for that need.
Every time we remind people of what we have done for them, or the contribution we have made is a clear indication that we still hold ourselves as the provider and not God.
Many also in the body of Christ may use this passage of scriptures to cover themselves of their lack of participation in the kingdom of God.
Everyone have their own choices to make, to serve, to give and to be what Christ has empowered us to do.
Let us do it unto the Lord, whether it is a community work, individual help or to our own family members.
Live in the blessings,
Ps Ambrose
