Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.

John advised believers not to keep being pulled in and out of the true message of Christ which they have heard from the beginning.

The disciples were preaching the fulfilment of the law and the prophets through Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the truth that John called them to abide.

Abide here means to settle in, dwell or to remain in that truth permanently. There is no need to discussed about the legitimacy of the truth. We need to instead start living them out every day.

The reason abiding in the truth is abiding in the Son is because the truth is the word and Jesus is the manifested word of God to all mankind.

John 1:1 says in the beginning was the Word, John 1:14 says the Word was made flesh- Jesus and John 17: 17 says sanctify them by the truth and Your word is truth.

Therefore, the truth is the full manifestation of Christ and His finished work for all mankind. This fullness of Christ's complete work can only be seen by all when those who believe in Him display them through their lives.

The early church prayed to be bold to continue to preach in the midst of life threatening persecution because if they don't display the life, power and the message of Christ, multitudes will die without Christ.

Let us hold fast, anchor in the truth and continue to grow from glory to glory and from strength to strength.
