Ecclesiastes 5:18 NKJV
Here is what I have seen: It is good and fitting for one to eat and drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor in which he toils under the sun all the days of his life which God gives him; for it is his heritage.
Ecclesiastes 5:18 NKJV
This is the picture of a life under the old covenant, under a curse and need to toil to eat the good of the land. They have to accumulate their heritage by the works of their hands.
At the end of life under man's domain is all vanity. Their wisdom, their knowledge and everything about them is vanity.
They were men made by God to have dominion over the world but became men under the dominion of the world because of sin.
Praise be to God that through Jesus Christ our purpose in life, our true identity and ability has been restored. In Christ all our works have eternal effect on us and on our next generation.
Living life in Christ is a total opposite from what Ecclesiastes wrote about the work of man. Now in Christ we are translated from emptiness to an abundant life, from barrenness to fruitfulness and with an inheritance that cannot be corrupted.
The contrast of a mere man to a born again child of God is totally different and one should not measure ourselves from the old self but the new.
This means our view of things need to be changed from vanity to a purposeful life according to God and His kingdom.
We start in Christ and we also end in Christ. We don't step out in our own wisdom or our strength. We step out in the eternal wisdom and strength of God.
We live, we move and have our being according to all that God has purposed for us. Therefore, what we do today is important, our steps and decisions are very important as they will affect our future generations.
Let us rise in Christ as a new creation who have been blessed with His divine nature and His love.
Live in the blessings,
Ps Ambrose
