Romans 13:1NKJV

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

Romans 13:1NKJV

This verse is often misunderstood, but it is essential to note that it does not suggest blind submission to any authority. As verse 2 clarifies, we are to submit to the ordinances of God. In other words, we should submit to governing authorities that align with God's principles and ordinances.

The concept of submission has been tainted by abuse, manipulation, and oppression, leading to a negative perception. However, submitting to God's ordinances is entirely different. When we submit to authorities that follow God's principles, we prosper. On the other hand, submitting to ordinances that contradict God's will can lead to suffering.

To submit means to come under. When we submit to God, we come under His protection, abundance, and restoration plans for humanity. Submitting to God's ordinances keeps us safe, assured of His love, and living under His grace.

Submitting to God's ordinances is a great gain, one that we cannot attain through our own efforts. By submitting, we experience the abundance of God in our lives. It is like giving ourselves a gift – the gift of living in the likeness of God and in His image.

Let us submit to God's ordinances, which are designed to protect, restore, and empower us.

Blessings,

Ps Ambrose
