Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

John 2:19 NKJV

Jesus cleansed the temple, which had become a house of merchandise. It has become a marketplace for trades and has lost its real purpose. And here Jesus said to destroy the physical temple and He will raise it up in three days.

Jesus is not only talking about his death and resurrection but also revealing His purpose to do away with religious monuments, rituals, and laws that are attached to it.

The temple was given to mankind in the Old Testament by God for a temporal measure until the Messiah comes.

Now Jesus has arrived to replace the old temple made by human hands with a temple made by His own death and resurrection.

This new temple is the resurrected temple of God which is everyone who believes in Christ. We are the temple of the living God as 1 Corinthians 3:16 reveals.

Therefore, we are not to be led by the old ways and the old laws that were made to work till Christ comes. We now need to shift our mindset to the new law that Christ established for all mankind.

To love the Lord and to love one another. This will sum up all the law and the prophets.

We need to do away with the old pattern and embrace the new that Christ has brought to us be by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Let us build our lives through Christ and in all that He has brought to us.
