Revelation 2:7 NKJV
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” ’ Revelation 2:7 NKJV
It is important to pay attention to God when He speaks especially when it is a directional message that needs immediate attention. Here in Revelation 2:7 is one of those we need to pay extra attention to so that we can alter immediately the way we live our life. The Holy Spirit is speaking to the seven churches. The first thing we need to understand is the foundational function of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said the Helper which is the Holy Spirit will testify of me. The Holy Spirit is in us to help us understand all that Jesus has done, is doing and what He wants us to do. Therefore to all the churches, God's Spirit is reminding us to constantly walk, live and be in the image of Christ. This church has got into doing religious things. What makes things we do for God religious that has no life-changing power? Everything of God is life, it's a river and its flow will never stop. When our being is not accompanied by our doing, it becomes religious. Verse 4 and 5 in this same chapter gives us what was lost and what needs to be done. We have lost the first love in verse 4 and we do the first works in verse 5. Getting back to our first love is not just spending time with God. It is doing the things we love doing when we first love God. Sharing about God, telling people how good God is and about His life to all. It is about doing things that display the glorious life we have in Him. Going out to preach the gospel, healing the sick, casting out the devils and setting the oppressed free for these were the works of love of the early church that loved God. They loved God by doing things that put their life at risk. The early church is a moving church, not a stagnant church. It's a church that has its hand in every life in the society. Let us keep our ears open to hear more about Jesus, keep our eyes open to look unto Jesus and keep developing in His image and likeness. Blessings Ambrose Francis
